crows_roost: (Little then)

A long time ago when I was very small, small enough to know without thinking how very very large the world really was, I lived in a little orange tent with my father, his lady and a couple of dogs to round out our family pack. My memories and dreams of that time and place sneak and peek around and whisper to me many days even now, at a glimpse and a pause and I am there just a bit.

This evening, turning through an old photo album, pealing back the plastic sheets, flipping a picture on a whim, I find my father's writing. Feb '77: it tells me just a bit about the campsite where we stayed...west of Hessie, above Eldora, outside of Nederland Colorado.

When I worked at REI years ago, one of the great old geezers there, after listening to a few of the fragments of stories that I have of my time out there above Hessie declared, "everyone should spend a season or two in an orange tent in the mountains with their father". Yes, I did.

I would have liked to have had such an episode in my life. Fortunately, I've enjoyed the life I did get, too.
