Sep. 8th, 2011 02:44 pmOut on the back deck is an offering of seeds, looking up while washing dishes I can see a hummingbird feeder, there is suet in a cage on the corner of the laundry room.
The suet was found first. One of this year's Stella jays stands below, on the rocky ground, looking up, mouth wide and shouting demands. I suppress a giggle. The bird cocks his head sideways at the window where I am watching him. He shouts again a couple more times. Finally he jumps into the air and flings himself at the hanging cage. He is able to hold on long enough for a peck, then losses his balance and plops to the ground again. Cheerfully he bounces about, picking up the bits he knocked loose while hanging on the cage for a moment. Then he does it again. I love jays!
