first kitten of the year

Our shelter's first kitten of the year went out to our local PetCo today...there was quite nearly a fight between the assistant manager of the store and one of the floor employees as to who both wanted to adopt said kitten. The kitten had a home before the store doors opened. We carried on with the day saying that while this kitten was no longer available he was a "sample kitten" and we would have another batch next month!

While these tiny kittens are most charming, and bring that silly grin to all of our faces, we know that the start of Kitten Season means that soon there will be so very many of them that need foster and then so soon real homes. There are just so many of them.

Please pass along the message of the importance of spaying and neutering pets so that the crushing over-population problem can be brought under control.
